Why Teach CAP?
It’s the imperative certification with a long name. The Certified Authorization Professional (CAP) certification from (ISC)2 demonstrates that learners have expertise with all the complexities of Federal IT risk management frameworks. As anyone with a PC will tell you (even those not in the industry), going digital comes with a host of risks that IT professionals must be acutely aware of.
Teaching 30 Bird’s CAP course arms your students with the skills to identify and mitigate risks, and prepares them to take and pass the (ISC)2 CAP certification exam.
Who Needs CAP?
Students with the ambition to work for the Department of Defense or other branches of the federal government should be CAP certified. The ability to identify and mitigate threats is paramount to the digital security of various arms of the government and at the heart of the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF). This may seem like a niche market, but more and more students are searching for instructors to teach them strategies to ace the exam.
The (ISC)2 website claims that 4,096 professionals currently work with CAP certification. This relatively small number of certifications speaks to the scope of the exam and the need students and instructors have for proper, comprehensive courseware. It also means that the need for more CAP-certified employees is enormous.
Changes to the Exam and Up-To-Date Courseware
The exam is not stagnant. To meet new threats, NIST constantly updates its Special Publications that govern the Federal Risk Management Framework (RMF). In the previous two years, NIST has overhauled many of its requirements, including Special Publications (SP) 800-37, R2; SP-800-53, R5; SP 800-160, versions 1 and 2; and SP 800-171, R1. (ISC)2, in turn, updated its CAP Certification Exam Outline in 2021, in compliance with the stringent requirements of ANSI/ISO/IEC Standard 17024.
That can be intimidating to instructors trying to keep up with those changes. Fear not, because 30 Bird is ahead of the game. As of April 2022, the 30 Bird CAP courseware is up to date with all NIST and (ISC)2 updates.
